Our Appreciation, Worldwide: Women Shaping Logistics

Back to Blog

At Capacity, we understand that a truly robust supply chain is built on the strength of its people. This Women's History Month, we're celebrating the incredible women who drive Capacity forward, not just here in our New Jersey and California locations, but across the globe.

From the bustling streets of Pune, India, to our own backyard, the strength, innovation, and dedication of our female team members are the backbone of our international supply chain logistics. We're honored to spotlight some of the remarkable women who make our global operations possible, highlighting the vital role of our interconnected, diverse team.

Akansha Salwatkar – Software Engineer II at Capacity Pune, India

Through my own experiences, I've learned some valuable lessons that have helped me navigate both professional and personal challenges.

To help you on your own journey, here are a few essential points I want to share:

  • Build Your Confidence: Confidence is key to how you're perceived. Dress for yourself, not others, and focus on building your expertise and believing in your skills.
  • Stay True to Yourself: Don't let others dictate your path. Follow your own instincts and pursue your own definition of success.
  • Strengthen Your Defenses: Learn to protect yourself, both emotionally and physically. Prioritize your mental and physical health.
  • Manage Your Emotions at Work: Keep emotional attachments separate from professional responsibilities to maximize productivity.

Jessica Medel - Client Services Supervisor at Capacity West, Irwindale, CA

A key influence in my career was a colleague I met early on in my career while working as a coordinator for a logistics company. At that time, she was an accomplished account manager, and years later, when she was leading the operations team at a startup, she reached out to me and recruited me to join her team. She recognized potential in me despite my relative inexperience. Her willingness to give me a chance and mentor me through the highs and lows of a startup environment taught me invaluable lessons about leadership and resilience. Her example of navigating the challenges of running the operations department as a young Latina woman continues to inspire me to this day.

¡Si se puede!

It's perfectly acceptable to make mistakes and experience setbacks. These are integral parts of your life journey. Own them, learn from them, and use them as stepping stones towards your goals. Recognizing and acknowledging these moments will boost your confidence to strive for greater achievements. Surrounding yourself with supportive individuals who elevate you and believe in your potential significantly impacts both personal and professional growth. Furthermore, having a mentor who is willing to share their knowledge and experience can profoundly uplift you in both life and career.

Gayatri Kulkarni – Agile Project Manager at Capacity Pune, India

As a mother, spending 11 hours a day away from home is challenging. While every day isn't always smooth, we must establish clear boundaries between our personal and professional lives. This is a significant challenge for many women, and I believe prioritizing our health is essential.

Having worked in the IT industry for a decade, I'd like to advise the next generation of young women to focus on their professional career growth, regardless of the pace.

Keep going!

Every woman has the potential to strive for her desired destiny.

Venu Muni - Director of Inventory Management at Capacity CHQ, North Brunswick NJ

Don't be afraid to take up space. Speak up. Be bold. Negotiate your worth. Don't let anyone diminish your expertise. Logistics and supply chain are still male-dominated fields, but that's changing, and you are part of that change. Build your network, find mentors, and be a mentor yourself. Most importantly, support each other. Lift each other up. There is room for all of us at the top. To thrive, we must cultivate a culture of curiosity. We must be continuously seeking new insights and fostering innovation to navigate evolving challenges and shape the future of the industry.

Rutuja Salunke - Jr. Quality Analyst at Capacity Pune, India

To foster a more equitable society, we must begin by sharing the care, recognizing the value of unpaid work and dividing responsibilities equitably. Amplifying feminist voices through impactful mediums like books and films, especially those created by women, can significantly shift cultural perceptions of gender. Let’s empower young girls by affirming their strength, intelligence, and worth, encouraging them to pursue their dreams. We must cultivate respect for individual choices, developing the ability to listen empathetically and think critically about diverse perspectives. By embracing these principles, we can create a world where everyone's voice is valued and respected.

Daina Welsh - Site Leader at Capacity C2, North Brunswick NJ

Your voice is valuable. While it's natural to feel hesitant depending on the audience, remember that your expertise matters. Sharing your knowledge, even in challenging environments, can contribute to meaningful discussions and create positive change.

Vaishnavi Nimse – Software Engineer II at Capacity Pune, India

This month is all about celebrating the amazing women in our lives—our colleagues, friends, family, and mentors. It’s a day to appreciate their hard work, strength, and the impact they make every day. But it’s also a reminder that there’s still work to do in creating a world where everyone has equal opportunities. For me, it’s about showing support, lifting each other up, and making sure our workplace is a space where everyone feels valued and respected.

Supporting Women Beyond This Month

The stories behind a successful global supply chain are as diverse and dynamic as the world we serve. As we close this celebration of Women's History Month, we at Capacity reaffirm our commitment to fostering an inclusive and empowering environment for all. The stories shared here are just a glimpse into the incredible contributions of our female team members, from New Jersey, California, and Pune, India. Their dedication is the foundation of our success, and we pledge to continue supporting their growth and celebrating their achievements, not just this month, but every day. By valuing the strength of our diverse team, we ensure a robust and resilient supply chain for the future.
